Venerable Thubten Dondrub is a much loved and former teacher at Hayagriva Buddhist Centre. Ordained as a monk in 1977, he has been teaching Buddhism around the world since the 1980s. He led the famous Kopan course 8 times. He has studied many of the great texts, taken numerous teachings from Buddhist masters and completed many retreats including a recent 17-month solitary retreat. Venerable Dondrub understands modern Australia and puts Buddhist ideas into that context.
We invite you to attend his teachings and/or workshops as outlined below and encourage you to book and pay online in advance so we can manage seating arrangements. Some of the sessions are restricted and can’t be booked online. See details below.

TEACHINGS
• Understanding Your Mind
7.30pm Tuesday 8, 15 January
Better understand how you view yourself, others and all phenomena. This teaching briefly looks at the mind and the mental factors that apprehend a particular quality of an object that the principal consciousness is perceiving. It is a key to identifying and cultivating positive attitudes that lead to peace and well-being. (We encourage you to attend both sessions but you can book each session separately.)
• Introduction to Buddhism and Meditation
7.30pm Friday 11, 18 January
Over two session, this teaching will summarise the main Buddhist principles and how they apply to daily life. This
knowledge will help you deal with everyday situations and help your meditation. It is said that trying to meditate without a knowledge of the teachings is like being an armless rock climber. (We encourage you to attend both sessions but you can book each session separately.)
WORKSHOPS
• Yamantaka Self Initiation*
Saturday 12 January Setup: 1pm Practice: 2pm
By donation.
*Prerequisites: participants must have the Yamantaka initiation to do the first part of the practice and completed the retreat and fire puja for the second part. Please contact the Spiritual Program Coordinator on 0422337524 about your eligibility. This workshop can’t be booked online due to the prerequisites.
• Using the Buddhist GPS (Samsara and Nirvana)
2 – 5pm Sunday 13 January
We pursue the tiniest pleasure and avoid the slightest suffering but despite our efforts, things still go wrong without control. Buddhism calls this state which exists from moment to moment and life to life Samsara. Learn about it and how to deal with it fora happier life.
• One-Day Retreat: Buddha’s Mantra Practice
10am – 4pm Saturday 19 January
Reciting the mantra of the historical Buddha, Shakyamuni Buddha, is a particularly powerful way to develop mindfulness and positive states of mind and purify negative karma. The practice involves focusing your concentration on visualising the Buddha and reciting his mantra in an experiential way. No initiation or previous experience is necessary.
Please bring a lunch to share.
• Nuts and Bolts of Deity Practice*
2 – 5pm Sunday 20 January
The basics of doing a deity practice and certain important aspects will be explained. Also, ask any questions you may have. By donation.

Attendance to restricted sessions is by donation and cannot be booked online. When attending, donations can be made using EFTPOS. Just ask one of our staff to assist.
